  • The trekking involoves walking through the jungle along designated walk ways by lead of Guides and park rangers who are trained to lead you along the safest and least intrusive routes. These routes are not chosen randomly; they are designed based on careful studies of the terrain, wildlife movement patterns, and environmental sensitivity.
  • Rangers often adjust the trekking routes based on seasonal changes or observations of gorilla families, ensuring that visitors can experience the trek without interfering with the gorillas’ daily lives as they are amazing to watch with the fact that they have 95% of the human DNA.  
  • The trek in Rushaga starts at 7:00am with briefing at Rushaga Park headquarters on the dos and don’ts before moving in the forest to encounter the gorillas. After briefing, the park guides, rangers, and trackers lead you to the forest to find the gorillas.
  • You are allowed one hour of viewing the gorillas when found, you will have a chance to take memorable photos and have a chance to ask any question of your choice to the rangers about the behaviors and survival of the primates in the jungle for more knowledge and later you return to the starting point to receive a certificate for the successful gorilla trekking in Uganda.

What is the Eligible age limit to trek gorillas in Rushaga?

  • Only eight visitors allowed to see gorillas per habituated family per day according to Uganda wildlife Authority policy so as to conserve the gorillas.
  • You must be aged 15 years and above as per the policy and minors are not allowed to trek since they may not easily be controlled in the forest and may easily transmit diseases to the gorillas.

The price of the gorilla trekking permits for Rushaga is USD800 per person for Non-Foreign Residents, USD700 for Foreign Residents and Shs.300, 000 for East African Citizens.

What is the best time for gorilla trekking in Rushaga?

  • The best time to trek gorillas in Uganda and Rushaga specifically is during the drier months of January, February, June, July, August and early September, these months experience less rainfall though the climate changes every day.
  • Any time of the year, you can visit the gorillas. Sometimes, the rainy season is considered better to see the gorillas as there is a lot of food growing because of rain and gorillas can clearly be spotted.
