Namugongo Martyrs Shrine Trail

This tour will take you to the Basilica located in Namugongo about 11km from the Capital Kampala was the execution ground in the Buganda Kingdom. The shrine is dedicated to the 22 Christian congregants who were brutally murdered by Kabaka Mwanga. The Martyrs were beatified in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV and later canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1964.

The Uganda Martyrs are the only African saints to whom a basilica is dedicated and they are the largest group of saints ever canonized by the Catholic Church. Every 3rd June the Catholic Church and their counterpart of Anglican persuasion flock this place from all over Africa and worldwide in honor of their religious heroes

Kings Palace/Buganda Kingdom

Buganda, the largest of the medieval kingdoms in present-day Uganda, became an important and powerful state during the 19th century. Established in the late 14th century along the shore of Lake Victoria, it evolved around its founding kabaka (king) Kintu, who came to the region from northeast Africa.

Lubiri (or Mengo Palace) is the royal compound of the Kabaka of Buganda, located in Mengo, a suburb of Kampala, the Ugandan capital. You will experience culture, traditions, dances of the Baganda tribe.

Uganda Museum

The Uganda Museum is located in Kampala, Uganda. It displays and exhibits ethnological, natural-historical and traditional life collections of Uganda’s cultural heritage. It was founded in 1908, after Governor George Wilson called for “all articles of interest” on Uganda to be procured. Uganda National Mosque (Formerly Gaddafi Mosque)

The Gaddafi mosque lies on top of one of the prominent hills in Kampala. It was built in 2006 with funds from the Libyan government. The Mosque was commissioned by the late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and can accommodate about 17,000 people. From its 90-meter tower, the mosque provides one of the 3 best views of Kampala city center. Apart from the great views of Kampala, the mosque is built with Moroccan architecture and furnished with beautiful carpets.
